The Weapon Shop is a shop in Spelunky Classic that sells the Pistol, Shotgun, Machete, Bow and Web Cannon, and bombs.

Its Shopkeeper welcomes the player with "WELCOME TO ANDY'S ARMORY!", his name one of 32 drawn at random[^6][^7]. It's the one
shop that sells weapons: the [Pistol](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/pistol), [Shotgun](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/shotgun), [Machete](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/machete), [Bow](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/bow) and
[Web Cannon](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/web-cannon), with Bomb Bags and Bomb Boxes among them. Like every
shop it's a side room off the way through a level, with four wares on its floor and the
[Shopkeeper](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/shopkeeper) beside them.

## Stock

The shop has four wares, and each is rolled on its own[^8][^9]. The rolls go down the table until one hits. A hit on a
weapon the level already has rolls again from the top, and after twenty such tries the ware is a Bomb Bag[^10]:

| Ware | Roll | |
| ------------------------------------------------- | --------------------------------------- | ----- |
| [Web Cannon](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/web-cannon) | 1 in 12, if the level has none | [^11] |
| [Shotgun](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/shotgun) | 1 in 10, if the level has none | [^12] |
| Bomb Box | 1 in 6 | [^13] |
| [Pistol](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/pistol) | Otherwise 1 in 4, if the level has none | [^14] |
| [Machete](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/machete) | Otherwise 1 in 4, if the level has none | [^15] |
| Bomb Bag | Otherwise 1 in 4 | [^16] |
| [Bow](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/bow) | Otherwise 1 in 4, if the level has none | [^17] |

So a Weapon Shop sells each weapon once at most, and bombs as often as its rolls give. The last four rows
share one roll, made at the start of each try[^18].

## Prices

A ware costs its base price on level 2, and 10% of that more for each level after it[^19]. Each ware's own page has its price on every level:

| Ware | Level 2 | Level 5 | Level 9 | Level 13 | Level 15 |
| ------------------------------------------------- | ------- | ------- | ------- | -------- | -------- |
| [Bow](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/bow) | $1,000 | $1,300 | $1,700 | $2,100 | $2,300 |
| [Web Cannon](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/web-cannon) | $2,000 | $2,600 | $3,400 | $4,200 | $4,600 |
| Bomb Bag | $2,500 | $3,250 | $4,250 | $5,250 | $5,750 |
| [Pistol](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/pistol) | $5,000 | $6,500 | $8,500 | $10,500 | $11,500 |
| [Machete](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/machete) | $7,000 | $9,100 | $11,900 | $14,700 | $16,100 |
| Bomb Box | $10,000 | $13,000 | $17,000 | $21,000 | $23,000 |
| [Shotgun](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/shotgun) | $15,000 | $19,500 | $25,500 | $31,500 | $34,500 |

A Black Market's Weapon Shop prices its wares by the level the market is on[^20].

## Shopkeeper

**Clip: Buying a pistol in a Weapon Shop.** The player walks into a Weapon Shop on level 2, which its shopkeeper calls his armory. He picks up the pistol, the shopkeeper names its price, $5000, and he pays for it. ([video](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/media/9298410b19d5e050/clips/weapon-shop/buy/clip.mp4))

The Shopkeeper sells as in every shop ([the General Store](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/general-store#shopkeeper) has the details): he
names the price of a ware the player holds, and the pay key buys it[^21][^22]. A
weapon bought stays in the player's hands, his own[^23];
a Bomb Bag or Box is used up, adding its bombs. In the clip, the player walks into the shop, picks up the
Pistol, which the Shopkeeper prices at $5,000, and pays[^24].

A weapon held unpaid can be used inside the shop: only leaving the shop's room with it is theft[^25]. Using it on the Shopkeeper is another matter. A bullet
or a pellet takes 4 of his hit points and stuns him, and he gets up angry; the Whip, the Machete's slash
or a [thrown item](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/throwing) makes him attack at once[^26][^27][^28].
None of these marks the player a thief, though the wares he gives away can then be carried out
([the General Store](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/general-store#stealing) has the rules)[^29].
Angered, he gives the wares away and attacks with his own [Shotgun](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/shotgun)[^30].

**Clip: Shotgun blast.** The player picks up a shop's shotgun and fires it once to the left, at the wall, and once to the right into the shopkeeper. All six pellets hit him: he loses 24 hit points at once, drops his own shotgun and dies, and each shot pushes the player back. ([video](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/media/9298410b19d5e050/clips/shotgun/shopkeeper/clip.mp4))

In the second clip, the player fires the shop's unpaid Shotgun, first away from the Shopkeeper and then
into him: the six pellets take more than his hit points, and he drops his own Shotgun and dies, which
leaves the wares free[^31][^32]. A
dead Shopkeeper marks the player a murderer for the rest of the game, whatever killed him[^33][^29].

## Stealing

Carrying a ware out of the shop's room unpaid angers the Shopkeeper ("COME BACK HERE, THIEF!") and gives
it to the player as if bought[^25][^34]. A theft marks the player a thief into the next level, whose
exit has a Shopkeeper waiting by it and whose shops' wares are free
([the General Store](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/general-store#stealing) has the rules)[^35].

## Locations

A level from 2 to 15 that rolls a shop builds one of seven kinds, each as likely, so a shop is a Weapon
Shop one time in seven (one in six on a Temple sacrifice pit level, which never has a
Kissing Parlor)[^36][^1][^37][^4].
[The Mines](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/mines#shops) has how levels roll shops. A [Black Market](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/black-market) has five shops that
sell items, as a rule one of each kind, a Weapon Shop among them ([the General
Store](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/general-store#trivia) has the exception)[^5][^29].

## Trivia

- The source calls it the "Weapon" shop, and its Shopkeeper an "ARMORY"[^38][^6]. Its sign shows a
  pistol.
- Every Shopkeeper carries a Shotgun, and drops it, free, when he's stunned or killed, so any shop's
Shopkeeper can be made to give one up[^39].

## FAQ

### What does the Weapon Shop sell in Spelunky Classic?

Four wares, each a [Pistol](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/pistol), [Machete](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/machete), [Bow](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/bow), [Shotgun](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/shotgun) or [Web Cannon](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/web-cannon), at most one of each a level, or a Bomb Bag or a Bomb Box.

### How much does the Shotgun cost in Spelunky Classic?

$15,000 on level 2, and 10% of that more on each level after it, up to $34,500 on level 15: the dearest ware a Weapon Shop sells.

### Can you use a weapon in a shop before paying for it in Spelunky Classic?

Yes. Using it inside the shop isn't stealing. Only carrying it out of the shop's room unpaid is, or hitting the Shopkeeper with it, which makes him attack.

### Why is the Weapon Shop called an armory?

Its Shopkeeper welcomes the player to his "ARMORY". The source calls it the "Weapon" shop.
