# Bomb Shop

From the spelunky.ai wiki: <https://spelunky.ai/wiki/bomb-shop>. Verified against the spelunky.ai port [v0.1.10](https://github.com/851-labs/spelunky/releases/tag/v0.1.10) on 28 October 2026.

The Bomb Shop is a shop in Spelunky Classic that sells bombs, in bags and boxes, and the Paste that makes them stick.

Its Shopkeeper welcomes the player with "WELCOME TO TONY'S BOMB SHOP!", his name one of 32 drawn at random[^6][^7]. It sells
the player's [bombs](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/bomb), in Bomb Bags and Bomb Boxes, and the
[Paste](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/paste) that makes them sticky. Like every shop it's a side room off the way through a level, with
four wares on its floor and the [Shopkeeper](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/shopkeeper) beside them.

## Stock

The shop has four wares, and each is rolled on its own[^8][^9]. The rolls go down the table until one hits; a hit on the
Paste when the level already has one rolls again from the top[^10]:

| Ware | Roll | |
| --------------------------------------- | ----------------------------- | ----- |
| [Paste](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/paste) | 1 in 5, if the level has none | [^11] |
| Bomb Box, 12 | Otherwise 1 in 4 | [^12] |
| Bomb Bag, 3 | Otherwise | [^13] |

So until the level has a Paste, each ware is a Paste one time in five, a Bomb Box one time in five (4 in
5 times 1 in 4) and a Bomb Bag three times in five; once it has one, a Box one time in four and a Bag
otherwise. The check is for a Paste on the level, not for the player's, so a Bomb Shop sells the Paste
to a player who already has it[^14][^15].

## Prices

A ware costs its base price on level 2, and 10% of that more for each level after it[^16]. Each ware's own page has its price on every level:

| Ware | Level 2 | Level 5 | Level 9 | Level 13 | Level 15 |
| --------------------------------------- | ------- | ------- | ------- | -------- | -------- |
| Bomb Bag | $2,500 | $3,250 | $4,250 | $5,250 | $5,750 |
| Bomb Box | $10,000 | $13,000 | $17,000 | $21,000 | $23,000 |
| [Paste](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/paste) | $3,000 | $3,900 | $5,100 | $6,300 | $6,900 |

A box of 12 costs four times a bag of 3, so a bomb costs the same either way. A Black Market's Bomb Shop
prices its wares by the level the market is on[^17].

## Shopkeeper

**Clip: Buying bombs in a Bomb Shop.** The player walks into a Bomb Shop on level 2 and its shopkeeper welcomes him. He picks up a bag of three bombs for $2500 and pays, and his bombs go from 4 to 7. ([video](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/media/9298410b19d5e050/clips/bomb-shop/buy/clip.mp4))

The Shopkeeper sells as in every shop ([the General Store](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/general-store#shopkeeper) has the details): he
names the price of a ware the player holds, and the pay key buys it[^18][^19]. A
bag or a box is used up as it's bought, adding its bombs to the player's, and the Paste goes on, making
every bomb he throws from then on sticky[^20]. In the clip, the
player picks up a bag priced at $2,500 and pays for it, and his bombs go from 4 to 7[^21].

The wares are bombs not yet lit, and nothing in them angers him. A bomb the player lights inside the shop
within 96 pixels of him does ("TERRORIST!"), and so does breaking a block of the shop's walls or floor
("DIE, YOU VANDAL!")[^22][^23].
Either angers every Shopkeeper near the screen, not only the shop's, and in a [Black Market](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/black-market)
a burning bomb adds to the thief count again on every step for each one off screen
([the General Store](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/general-store#stealing) has the details)[^15][^24].
Angered, he gives the wares away and attacks with his [Shotgun](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/shotgun)[^25].

## Stealing

Carrying a ware out of the shop's room unpaid angers the Shopkeeper ("COME BACK HERE, THIEF!") and gives
it to the player as if bought[^26][^27]. A player who runs and jumps out of an Ice Caves Bomb Shop
with the Paste has it on as he leaves[^28]. A theft marks the player a thief into the next
level, whose exit has a Shopkeeper waiting by it and whose shops' wares are free
([the General Store](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/general-store#stealing) has the rules)[^29].

## Locations

A level from 2 to 15 that rolls a shop builds one of seven kinds, each as likely, so a shop is a Bomb Shop
one time in seven (one in six on a Temple sacrifice pit level, which never has a
Kissing Parlor)[^30][^1][^31][^4].
[The Mines](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/mines#shops) has how levels roll shops. A [Black Market](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/black-market) has five shops that
sell items, as a rule one of each kind, a Bomb Shop among them ([the General Store](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/general-store#trivia)
has the exception)[^5][^15].

## Trivia

- Its sign shows a bomb, and the source's name for the shop is "Bomb"[^32].
- The [Weapon Shop](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/weapon-shop) sells Bomb Bags and Bomb Boxes too, and a Weapon Shop that fails twenty
times to find a weapon the level hasn't got sells a Bomb Bag instead[^33].

## FAQ

### What does the Bomb Shop sell in Spelunky Classic?

Four wares, each a Bomb Bag (3), a Bomb Box (12) or the [Paste](https://spelunky.ai/wiki/paste), which makes the player's bombs stick to what they touch. A level has one Paste at most.

### How much does a box of bombs cost in Spelunky Classic?

$10,000 on level 2, and 10% of that more on each level after it, up to $23,000 on level 15. A bag costs $2,500 on level 2.

### Can you bomb a Bomb Shop in Spelunky Classic?

Only at a cost. A bomb the player lights inside any shop, near the Shopkeeper, angers him ("TERRORIST!"), as does breaking the shop's walls or floor.
